Add a Little Harlequin to Your Commute

When I was driving home this afternoon, I caught a glimpse of one of Capital Metro's Express Buses with what I think is a new ad campaign.

This isn't a great photo, but if you look closely you can see that the "talk bubbles" on the side of the bus list the reasons why a bus commute is better than driving. One of the reasons listed - nearest the driver's window - is "I can read my cheap romance novels and fantasize."

That one made me do a double-take. Granted, I've never taken one of the Express Bus routes. But given my experience with other Cap Metro buses, fantasizing is the last thing I want to do while riding.

I'm cracking up at this! I typically fantasize about getting home safely (without being followed by any creeps) when I ride CapMetro (as I'm usually on the straigth shot from campus to downtown there are always some "characters"). Maybe the Express Route is another story altogether.

Did ya know that this is all part of Cap Metro's i-Ride contest? They're giving away cash and iPods to people who give the best testimonial about riding. Check it out: www.capmetro.org/iride

I love i-Ride! I've already entered the contest five times with various reasons of why I ride. Such as, to fantasize about my husband, to work on my daughter's baby book, to SLEEP (I have a newborn, so I don't get any sleep), and to balance my dwindling checkbook!

Hi. I just found your blog and really enjoy it. Oddly enough I was born in Maine, lived there for a few years, and then moved to Massachusetts and grew up there. I ended up getting married to a woman from Austin. At some point we will move to Austin and its great to know that a New Englander can survive and thrive in Texas.

The express routes are very non-scary; I used to reverse commute on one regularly from 38th/Medical to Balcones Woods. Very nice comfortable ride; and even a carsick-prone guy like me can read.
